PART 1. Warmer

This test is to assess your English language proficiency in accordance with the ICAO requirements. The test will consist of four parts and will take approximately 30 minutes.

First of all, I’d like to know something about you.

  2. Why did you decide to be a pilot?
  3. How did you become a pilot?
  4. Could you tell me about your flying experience?
  5. Would you recommend younger people to choose pilot as a career?
  6. What do you think your life will be like in five years?

PART 2. Interview, General English

Now let’s talk about weather and its impact on flight operations.

  1. What weather information do pilots need before a flight?
  2. What meteorological parameters affect the crew decision for take-off?
  3. At what flight stages do pilots require updated weather reports?
  4. Can improper assessment of weather information jeopardize flight safety?

PART 3A. Listening and RT Role-Play

Now you are going to hear three recordings describing in-flight situations. You will listen to each recording twice. You are allowed to take notes. After listening to each of the recordings, you will be asked several questions. Then we will role-play pilot-controller communications on the situation from the recording.Do you understand the instructions?

This part of the test will be conducted without visual contact between us. Now I’ll place the screen.

RECORDING ONE

Now please answer the questions.

  3. How was the situation resolved?

Now imagine you are the pilot of the aircraft taxiing behind the affected Boeing. Your call sign is Sky Air 321. Please advise Tower about the problem with the Boeing and reply to the controller.

RECORDING TWO

Now please answer the questions.

  1. What was the problem with the aircraft?
  2. What decision was made by the crew?
  3. What assistance was provided by ATC?
  4. What other details did you copy?

Now imagine you are the pilot of the affected flight. Your call sign is Sky Air 111. Please advise Centre about the problem and reply to the controller.

RECORDING THREE

Now please answer the questions.

  1. What was the incident?
  2. What did the pilot report?
  3. What were the crew actions?
  4. What other details did you copy?

Now imagine you are the pilot of the affected aircraft. Your call sign is Sky Air 321. Please advise Tower about the intruder and reply to the controller.

PART 3B. Follow-up

Considering the three situations you’ve heard, which do you think is the most serious?

PART 4A. Listening, Radiotelephony

Now you are going to listen to a radiotelephony exchange. You will listen to the recording twice. You are allowed to take notes. After listening to the recording, you will be asked several questions. Then we will discuss the issue in a broader context. Do you understand the task?

PART 4B. Interview, Aviation English
